About this course.
I am so excited about this course! There is really so much detail and information here. Most often linking steps are extremely underrated and overlooked. Didn’t understand the importance of linking steps until I was at The Vaganova. They set you up for anything that follows them. If done well, you will have a better pose, jump, or pirouette following them. If done badly, they will look clumsy, turned in and downgrade your dancing. I urge you to see the importance, learn the intricate detail of these steps and take your dancing to another level. That’s why you’re here. Enjoy the course!
Course breakdown.
Isabella introduces the course to you. Linking steps are so important and here, Isabella will explain why!
In this lesson Isabella will be taking you through the very common linking step, Glissade. This step is tricky and in order to make look seamless and effortless we need to do a few things. When we execute things correctly, we will deliver a more useful and beautiful movement. Glissades help us go into a big movement or jump. If done well, the said movement will then be that much better.
This lesson is all about Pas de bouree. This was a particular step which was really opened up to me when I went to the Vaganova. This step can easily look heavy and clumsy. In this lesson we will learn how to make it look effortless, light and utilise the step with upper body coordination and artistry.
In this lesson we will be learning about Pas Couru! Most often this leads into a big jump such as Pas Couru Jeté. I feel like this step is often neglected. It’s very important to understand how to do linking steps properly so we can execute the next movement beautifully. Pas Couru is a tricky one, so make some room and let’s start!
We are approaching the last couple of lessons of the course! I hope you are enjoying yourself and learning a lot so far. In this lesson we will be learning Chassé/tombé pas de bouree. We have already touched on pas de bouree so now we will add a chassé and tombé which helps us travel more and gain momentum when need to take up some space.
The final lesson! Now we will be learn how to step and chassé into a large jump such as a fouetté jump or entrelacé. These linking steps most often happen on a diagonal. The head, the timing of arms and head as well as turnout and accent are very very important in this step. When I dance soloist snowflakes at The Mariinsky, there are a series of these linking steps into continuous Entrelacé jumps. Only from practicing thousands of times and my teacher screaming religiously did I understand this step. This lesson will also end the course. Isabella trained at The Royal Ballet School and then became the first British girl to join the Vaganova Ballet Academy in Saint Petersburg at 15 where she studied for 4 years. She joined the Mikhailovsky Ballet in Russia as a soloist and later danced with Eifman Ballet.
