About this class:
Welcome to your 20-minute beginner pointe barre designed specifically for dancers who are just starting their journey en pointe. This class is about more than just putting on your shoes; it’s about building the foundations that will support your strength, stability, and confidence for years to come.
In this focused session, you’ll work through simple yet powerful barre exercises that target your feet, ankles, calves, and core. With careful attention to alignment, technique, and control, we’ll guide you through fundamental movements such as relevés, échappés, and slow rises to demi-pointe and full pointe.
You’ll learn how to activate the correct muscles, avoid common mistakes, and begin developing the poise and power needed for more advanced work.
This isn’t about rushing—this is about doing it right. Each exercise is deliberately paced, giving you the chance to feel what proper placement and strength truly mean. You’ll start unlocking more of your potential by reinforcing correct habits, increasing your endurance, and understanding how to move with your shoes, not against them.
Perfect as a standalone practice or as a warm-up before a full pointe class when you are more advanced.. Thiis beginner barre sets the stage for safe and effective progression. Let’s build your pointe strength, one step at a time.

Meet Your Teacher
Suvi Honkanen
Suvi Honkanen is a dancer from Helsinki. Suvi began dancing at the age of 3 and studied at the Helsinki Dance Institute’s specialized training program as well as at the Boulder Ballet School in the USA. She completed her professional dancer training at the Finnish National Opera Ballet School and also studied at the Vaganova Academy in St. Petersburg under Irina Sitnikova. After graduating in 2010, she was hired by the Finnish National Ballet, where she danced for nine years in both classical works and contemporary dance repertoire, after which she has been employed as a freelance dancer internationally

Correct placement and posture at the barre to support pointe work safely
How to rise through demi-pointe to full pointe with control and alignment
How to articulate through the feet during relevés and échappés

Building ankle strength and endurance for sustained work en pointe
Awareness of weight placement and balance to avoid sickling or rolling
How to feel more connected to the floor through the shoes for better control
