Welcome to the Beginners Pointe Course.

Course outline

About this course.

This course is perfect for pointe beginners who are looking to finally start their pointe shoe journey, as well as for dancers who are coming back from injury, and looking to rehabilitate back to pointe work.

Isabella will take your through preparing your pointe shoes, what to expect when you choose your shoes, feet exercises for strength of the feet, Pointe exercises learning correct technique and to build strength.

There’s a lot to learn. Let’s start!

Course breakdown.
Pointe Course – Introduction to Pointe
12:00

In this lesson we will be hearing Isabella talk all about her journey with pointe shoes, what you should expect when you get your first pair, as well as how to prepare your shoes, protect your feet and put the shoes on properly. A very enjoyable and informative lesson for you to gain knowledge about your pointe shoes and start your journey correctly!

Pointe Course – Lesson 1

In this lesson we will be doing key exercises for the feet and ankles which are critical for proper foot strength and alignment. Do these exercises with me and make it a big priority to always do these exercises before you put your pointe shoes on. You want your feet to always feel ready and warm to go! Pointework is a lot of strain on the feet so we want all of the muscles awake and gaining strength at all times.

Pointe Course – Lesson 2
12:00

In this lesson we will be doing some standing feet and lower leg exercises at the barre. Having strong lower legs and ankles is critical for getting up on pointe effectively and safely. Make these exercises apart of your routine and you will keep building strength imperative for your pointe work.

Pointe Course – Lesson 3
26:00

Put your pointe shoes on! it’s time to go on pointe. This is always such an exciting journey. You may be very new to Pointe, or coming back to pointe and either way it’s really exciting. By now your legs and feet should be very warm and ready to go. Put your shoes on as stated in the introduction, and let’s master these beginner pointe exercises. Your journey has begun!

Isabella McGuire Mayes
Founder

​Isabella trained at The Royal Ballet School and then became the first British girl to join the Vaganova Ballet Academy in Saint Petersburg at 15 where she studied for 4 years. She joined the Mikhailovsky Ballet in Russia as a soloist and later danced with Eifman Ballet.
