Soar to New Heights with Online Ballet Classes Focussed on Jumps

Do you dream of jumping like a professional ballerina one day? At Ballet With Isabella, we believe that every dancer can achieve their goals with the right guidance and practice. Our beginner centre class focused on jumps is the perfect starting point for those eager to master the art of aerial ballet.

We understand the allure of big, bold jumps. However, just like building a house, a strong foundation is essential for long-lasting and successful results. That’s why our online ballet class for beginners emphasises the importance of starting with the basics. By building strength, coordination, and control from the ground up, you’ll be well-equipped to tackle more challenging jumps with confidence and ease.

Isabella’s expert instruction breaks down complex movements into simple, understandable steps. With her clear cues and patient guidance, you’ll gain a deep understanding of jump terminology, execution, and technique. From small, controlled jumps to larger, more dynamic leaps, you’ll progress at your own pace while developing a strong technical foundation.

What are the 5 Types of Jumps in Ballet?

While there are numerous jumps in the ballet vocabulary, we’ll focus on five fundamental types in this class:

  • Sauté: This basic jump involves a small, controlled take-off and landing, emphasising technique over height.
  • Temps Levé: A preparatory jump that helps develop coordination and balance, leading to more complex movements.
  • Jeté: A dynamic leap characterised by a split-like position in the air.
  • Assemblé: A combination jump that begins with a plié, followed by a small leap and a closing of the feet.
  • Sissonne: A jump that involves closing the feet in the air, either open or closed.

It’s important to note that while there are variations and complexities to each jump, this class focuses on building the essential skills needed to execute them correctly and confidently.

Is There a Difference Between a Leap and a Jump?

While often used interchangeably, there is a subtle distinction between leaps and jumps in ballet. A jump typically involves a small take-off and landing, with a focus on height and control. A leap, on the other hand, is characterised by a longer, more extended movement in the air, emphasising distance and elevation.

Our beginner class – which is also perfect for adults who want to start ballet – will help you understand these differences and develop the strength and technique required for both jumps and leaps.

In addition to jump-specific exercises, this class incorporates adagio and pirouette work to create a well-rounded centre practice. By combining these elements, you’ll develop a strong sense of musicality, balance, and artistry.
